I think it is good thing to help refugees and those that are fleeing persecution. America has a long history of accepting refugees accepting millions in the last century. I hope the fear will fade and our country will admit more than the 1,500 Syrians it has already accepted.
Not sure that incendiary comments are going to sway anyone to your position. You just come off as smug.

I never read the really old publications, but this does explain some of the ideas older witnesses have and even the young ones. The teachings in the old literature like the 20's and 30's have some bizarre ramblings and that lingered on by word of mouth. I remember different ones expressing opinions about material I never read before and now I have idea where they got those ideas. -

In the 90's when I started I was talked to by the Elders and then there were some pioneer sisters that snubbed their noses at me. Over all my congregation didn't really care. The presiding overseer had a bachelor in education and was a high school teacher. Another elder had a bachelor and eventually got a law degree to practice immigration.
I earned a Bachelors in Business management, and pursued a manager position in retail. I worked many years managing several witnesses that never knew my past. They were stockers barely making minimum wage. I didn't feel any glee because in reality I felt miserable for those that I did manage, because of the low pay and my inability to really change their predicament.I'm glad I chose that career because of the experience of managing people is a great skill to acquire.
I since quit that position and am pursing two degrees. One degree in nursing from a local college and a BS in Health Informatics from WGU online. I will complete my Health Informatic degree in 2016 and nursing in May 2017. I'm glad i pursued my degree/s because of the increase standard of living, and the ability to direct my own path. Though I have strong opinions I don't judge those that I care for. I enjoy helping others and thankful I have the ability to pursue a career change.
I think the later is the most important to me. I'm able to travel and will be going to Ecuador this summer to assist in nursing and healthcare events.

The evolution in Australia is fascinating. It is a shame some of the creatures humans may have killed off there in the past few centuries that we never heard of. Thylacine were interesting to me but I'm sure there were others like them that were never recorded that were wiped out. -

silentbuddha,
I quit Walmart as a manager this March to pursue a Nursing degree. But apparently they don't sell AR-15s anymore. I'm not sure since I don't shop there or have much to do with them now.

I did forget to mention something as my experience in selling firearms. The 400+ firearms I sold in a ten year period, happened mostly after there was even a hint of gun controls. During President Obama's two election terms and Sandy Hook Massacre. I spent most of my time approving fire arm sells during my shift.
For example in 2005 I probably sold a total of 16 guns for the whole year and the store itself probably sold around 200. This is in a very rural area of Florida and what was sold were your shotguns mostly and hunting rifles. I never sold handguns and the company only sales handguns in Alaska for bear protection.
On December 15th the day after the massacre, I personally sold 30 firearms that day and that was limited because I was waiting for background checks. The state of Florida was overwhelm with background checks. Additionally in 2005 we didn't sell assault rifles (AR-15). In 2011 we started to sale them as there was a great demand. In December 15th, 16th, and 17th we sold out of our entire inventory of AR-15 style guns (117). For five months we would have customers camp our sporting goods department starting at 3am waiting for FedEx to arrive. We never knew what we would get and sometimes we wouldn't get any guns, but that didn't stop people from waiting.
One of the main reason for the rush was because people were taking these same guns and selling them for 3x time amount. A colt AR-15 that we sold for $1050 was selling at gun shows or private sell for $3,000. Our cheapest AR-15 type rifle was around $598 and it was being resold for nearly $1,500. The same thing was happening with popular ammo .22, 9mm, ect... Then when people realized that our government would do nothing the hysteria died, with the exception of ammo. I still can't find .22 anywhere.
The gun manufacturers love gun debate and they love when people begin shouting gun control. Their profits soar. That Bushmaster that was used in Sandy Hook Massacre was from Remington and sold at places like Walmart.

But now is your opportunity to say what your solution would be.
I already stated my solution. Total gun ban. Same as yours. However, I stated such an event will not happen for a very long time in America and listed the reasons why. I'm a gun hobbyist and don't hunt, so a ban wouldn't really impact me much. Nor do I believe that my guns will protect me in a home invasion as I stated in another post.
I slightly agree with Simon, for he is correct about the culture has to change. That is the key as it is with the Islamic extreme ideology. The problem is changing a culture can take a long time but it can happen within a 20 year period. I remember in 1995 that identifying as homosexual or even supporting basic rights for them was taboo but my generation (I was a teen then) were more liberal on the issue. Over 20 years my generation raise children that were even more liberal on the subject and so laws were changed and both private and public policy reflect the cultural change.
I know my answer is not as concrete as gun control but I truly believe nothing will change unless our country gun culture changes. How this can happen I don't have an answer. I do know that MTV played a role in exposing my generation to homosexuals and perhaps media and pop cultural may be the answer too. Do you feel I'm wrong?
